            2 April 2021

I am excited to announce that GENAP is launching Secondary School Mathematics Competition. This competition uses questions from the University of Melbourne School Mathematics Competition - which has been in existence since 1972.

The competition is of a demanding standard, designed to identify real mathematical talent. The nature of the problems is different from that encountered in school mathematics syllabi, being less mechanical and requiring a higher level of mathematical insight and creativity. As such, participation is likely to be more rewarding to those students who have a real love for, and ability in, mathematics.

The competition is separated into three divisions:

            •   Junior Division - Students in years 6 to 8 sit a two-hour exam

            •   Intermediate Division - Students in years 9 and 10 sit a three-hour exam

            •   Senior Division - Students in years 11 and 12 sit a three-hour exam

Further details can be found on the Info Sheet.I look forward to welcoming you to Secondary School Mathematics Competition!

              Best wishes,

Roy LoCountry Director of Secondary School Mathematics Competition

          • Protokol Keselamatan Covid 19 Sekolah Permata Bangsa- Terbukti Berhasil!

          • PBS Covid-19 Safety Protocol – Proves Successful!

          • Today our school health and safety protocol has proven itself a success!

            • Teachers went through extensive training in June to understand how to break the transmission of the virus and how to practice good hygiene.
            • Safety procedures and protocols were put in place throughout the school.
            • Staff then created their own working “bubble”.

By keeping our staff separated in “bubbles”, and following strict protocol, we were able to avert a larger complication.

One of our staff, when being prepared for minor surgery, tested positive for covid-19 virus during the routine test. We are happy to report the staff member is only showing moderate symptoms and is feeling slightly unwell. They will remain off campus to complete their 14 day quarantine. It is believed that the staff member was infected while visiting their medical clinic the week before in preparation for the minor surgical procedure.

As per our Covid-19 Protocol & Procedure Policy:

            • The building was immediately quarantined for cleaning and disinfecting;
            • Staff sharing that area, were identified, isolated and safely transported to the nearest clinic for rapid antigen testing.
            • All test results were negative (Procedure & Policy when followed works very well).
            • Even though testing negative – staff members having been in contact with our team member, will self-quarantine in their own homes next week and will receive 2 negative test before returning to our facility.
            • Specialists will be on site Monday morning to fog and disinfect the entire school.
            • All lessons will continue as per usual.

We hope all Permata Bangsa families remain safe during this Global Pandemic. Teachers continue to  remind our students to practice good hygiene and common sense during these times.

Let’s keep our community “thinking positive and praying” that this situation will improve around the world and we can once again return to safe, normal, and happy lives.

Take exquisite care and stay safe!

          • Project Based Learning (PBL) Pack for Gr 4-6:

          • Effects of Exercise on Body Systems

Grades 4 through 6 will begin their PBL Pack next week and work together to design a series of exercises to improve their fitness level. Ms. Putri met with them yesterday to share some of the details of activity. Parents will be recieiving their own info pack with timetable details tomorrow.

            The Problem

Your school is having a field day a month from now! Students will compete in different outdoor games and activities. Each class will earn points depending on how well the students from that class perform in each event. The class that earns the most points will win a big prize. Your class is determined to win! To prepare, you will need to design a series of exercises to improve your fitness level. The exercises must be ones that can safely be completed every day for at least a week within 20 minutes. You must also design a way to measure how effective the exercises are at improving your muscular, respiratory, and circulatory systems.

            Project Objectives

When we finish our project, we will be able to:

            - Understand how the respiratory, circulatory, and muscular systems each work

            - Plan and design a series of exercises

            - Design a way to measure the fitness of the muscular, respiratory, and circulatory systemsn Collect and analyze data

Create a presentation and demonstrate your exercises
